What it is
Nanocoatings® is an amorphous alcohol-based solution containing photocatalytic colloidal titanium dioxide and silver, with strong adhesion to both porous and smooth surfaces. Once dry it is transparent and highly hard-wearing; drying can be accelerated by heating the substrate.
The formula is already active at room temperature and was developed specifically for the construction, textile and plastics sectors, while remaining suitable for a wide range of materials.
How it activates
In the light
The photocatalytic titanium dioxide activates with both natural light and standard indoor artificial lighting.
In the dark
Thanks to its silver component, the treatment retains antibacterial action even in complete darkness: inside drawers, cabinets or closed compartments.
A single application stays active over time, providing continuous self-cleaning action on the surface even between one cleaning session and the next.
Indoor air purification
Thanks to the same photocatalytic principle and its strong oxidising action, the treatment doesn't only work on the surface: as air naturally circulates and comes into contact with the treated surface, pollutants in the environment are oxidised.
- Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
- Sulphur oxides (SOx)
- Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
- Fine particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5)
- Formaldehyde
The result is a noticeable improvement in indoor air quality (IAQ), with a reduction in odours as well as airborne viruses and bacteria. Because of this, the treatment is also well suited to air-purifier filters (ceramic or non-woven fabric) and fan coil unit components.
Application
Application is carried out exclusively by trained Alkeo Labs personnel and is a quick, simple and non-invasive procedure: the product is applied to the surface and dries within minutes, without requiring spaces to be closed off for long periods. It leaves no visible film and does not alter the treated substrate's texture or appearance.
Treatable surfaces and objects
Materials
Fabrics, metals, plastics, wood, glass, painted surfaces, marble, natural stone, composite materials and plaster.
Most treated contact surfaces
Keyboards, phones, touchscreens, remote controls, buttons and handles, handrails, sanitary fittings and taps, counters and display cases, curtains and textile coverings, seating and furniture surfaces.
Fields of use
Transport (company vehicles, buses, trains), large-scale retail, hospitality, schools, gyms and spas, public and private offices, healthcare facilities and care homes, industrial applications.
Testing and validation
The formulation draws on analyses carried out by institutions such as the University of Ferrara (Chemistry and Microbiology departments), CNR in Rome, the Kyoto Biseibutsu Kenkyujo laboratory in Japan, and Laboratori Biella Qualità Totale, alongside tests under UNI and ISO standards for photocatalytic reactivity, antibacterial action, NOx reduction and weathering resistance. Full documentation is available on request.
